TIA Students Take Regional Lego Title, Qualify For State Competition

Methuen’s Islamic Academy of Peace Team TIA Cybercyclones won the Inspiration Award at the Littleton Regional Qualifier for the 2019 First Lego League 2019 held December 7 in Boxboro.
“This team, values and displays diversity. and bloomed in their core value activities. The team spirit blew us like a cyclone,” said the presented when giving the award to the Cybercyclones.
The team had also qualified for the state competition to be held on Dec. 14 at WPI in Worcester. The seven-team members are Abdurrahman Aboumahmoud, AishaFarheen Riaz, Amal Bushnaq, FatimaZehra Sekin, Mahnoor Kazi, Shaimaa Chbib and Hussein Sounalah,  coached by Alaa Mahmoud and JaffarAli Sharfudeen along with coach Ali Shakir from Analog Devices.
Analog Devices was the official sponsor for the team. The theme for this year’s competition was “City Shaper” and the team chose Urban Farming as their focus.
They visited Boston Planning and Development Agency and met Ms. Kennan Rhyne, AICP Senior Planner II, to discuss the team’s research and learn about the City of Boston’s Urban Agriculture Zoning. The team stayed long hours after school (way past 10 p.m.), which shows their hard work, dedication and commitment.
