MHS’ Swales, Crowe Earn Coach and Player of the Year in MVC Field Hockey

The field hockey had an amazing fall season, as witnessed by the top awards from the Merrimack Valley Conference.

A huge congratulations to Methuen High School field hockey coach Kristen Swales, who was named MVC2 Coach of the Year by the Merrimack Valley Conference on Monday.

Swales led the Rangers to a 12-3-3 overall record and a No. 8 seed in the MIAA Division I North tournament. The season is just a continued progression of the program under Swales, who has worked hard to introduce field hockey to Methuen youth at a younger age to help them compete against programs that have deep traditions and long-established youth program connections to their high schools.

And a huge congratulations to senior field hockey star Claudia Crowe, who was named the MVC2 Player of the Year.

Crowe finished the season with a school-record 23 goals and also set the MHS career record for most goals scored. The team raised their teammate in celebration upon hearing the news. (photo courtesy Twitter/@methuensports)

And one piece of bonus outstanding news for the field hockey program. Swales did her outstanding coaching job while pregnant this fall and Friday, the team added a new addition to its ranks.
